As I browse my traveling photo collections, I stumble at one Folder that Said "Raya Island". As I recalled this is my trip from back in September 2014. But I still think this is a good time to share some information about this Island, because there are seldom who knows about it.
September 27th, 2014
Its a bright sunny day in Phuket Thailand, as I recalled this is my....... I don't know, I lost count on how many time I've visited Phuket LOL. So just skip that.Well today I choose to explore one of less known beautiful Island in Phuket, that is Raya Island or as Thai called it Racha Yai
I happens to know this Island because of my friend Sononi Noni, who lives in Phuket. Because I mentioned to him, I wanna go to an Island but not James Bond and Phi Phi Island because I've been there twice. So he refer me to Racha Yai
Also he offered me the cheap Travel Package, Full Day Tour to Raya Island for 900 baht, the regular price is 1200 baht.
So than this morning I woke up early at 06.00 o'clock and visited my friendly trusted convenience store, that is 7-Eleven, for some Thai Cup Noodle at 15 baht. That is my breakfast by the way :D
So the tour picked me up 08.00 and yes they are on time, its good to know that you are starting the trip with on time schedule. Feels like its going to be a great day right. And at 08.30 we are arrived at Chalong Pier. where the Speed Boat that will carry us to Raya Island is harbored
Coral Island
At 09.15 we arrived at the first stop at Coral Island. As the name implied on both side of the Island, there are really Big and Tall Coral, somehow like surrounding the beach.
The beach itself had a clean white sand and the long coast line, we can do swimming, water sport like Parasailing, Banana Boat, Sea Walker and stuff like that
We only spent like one and a half hours here, but for you whom love beaches, this one is great because it has blue water and a beautiful view. Next destination is Raya Island about 20 minutes drive by boat
Kon Kare Bay
Around 11.30 we arrived at Raya Island or as Thai called it Racha Yai Island but we are not straight harbored at the pier but the boat circled around the island to a dive and snorkel spot called Kon Kare Bay
Yes we are going to Snorkeling this time, because its one of the menu of this trip. The snorkel and life vest is provided by the Tour Agencies. As I started snorkel around, the wave is calm and the view to the bottom of the sea is clear. So its really a good day to Snorkel
Because of the clear blue water, its make easier to photograph the fish swimming around the coral here. Such a beauty isn't it ? :D
Spent like 1 hour to snorkeling, than we head back to the Island this time we harbored at Raya Island Pier.
Raya Island
Its already 12.30 when we arrived at Raya Island, so its Lunch Time. Oh yeah we harbored at pier that located in Batok Bay Beach. From there we are walking like 5 minutes to a resting place where we will have our lunch there. But the road is kind of muddy
Reached the Resting Place and the Buffet Food is served, its all you can eat for the menu is kind of standard like Chicken, Vegetables, and also Spaghetti. The Spaghetti was delicious, I quoted it :D
Finished with the lunch we are taking a short break here, talking with others. But i am a little curious with a nice view behind this Resting Place. Turns out there is a Small Beautiful Beach called Ter Bay. With a clear blue water and white sand, also its really quiet, awesome
The rest time is over now we are taken to the main part of the Island that is Siam Bay
Siam Bay
From the resting place we are taken by some kind of Carriage Tractor, reminds me of Andong in Indonesia but with a Tractor pretty cool. Its about 10 minutes passing the forest and through a small village here.
The first time gazing to this Beautiful Beach called Siam Bay Beach, its amazed me the white sand beach, clear blue sky and the blue clear water really fit. Also its not crowded, wow can you imagine a beach as beautiful as this, there is not many people around.
Maybe because maintained by the resort, its well organized. There are Beach Tent, Cafe around here. When the sunset arrive, I would like sit and enjoy it, in my imagination it will be like in Double Six Beach Bali but with less crowd
About 3 hours we are spent time here, at 15.30 we are going back to Batok Bay using that same Tractor Carriage. And went back to Chalong Pier at Phuket.
So there you go my travel experience to Racha Yai or Raya Island, quite a great island i must say. If you live the beautiful beach with quite place in Phuket (as you know Phuket is "crowded"). This island could be one of your choices. Would be perfect if you spent one or two nights at the resort.
